Mohave County man pleads for rehab, gets 12 years

Updated:

KINGMAN, Ariz. (AP) - A Mohave County man who pleaded with a judge to give him a chance to attend a rehab program instead got a 12-year prison sentence.

Donald Glen Branson was arrested last year after a 70-year-old neighbor caught him burglarizing a Golden Valley home and called deputies.

The 31-year-old had five prior felony convictions when a jury convicted him of the burglary in August.

The Kingman Daily Miner reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/PzVhNT ) that Branson sent a letter to Judge Derek Carlisle saying he's never been offered a chance at rehabilitation in a live-in home or similar program. Carlisle rejected the request and instead gave him the 12-year term because he had so many prior convictions.
