PATAGONIA, Ariz. -

Border Patrol agents patrolling on foot in the rugged Patagonia Mountains found an intact ancient pot and a fragment of a second pot.

The pots were made of clay and appeared weathered, so the agents turned the discovery over to U.S. Forest Service officials.

An initial inspection revealed that the pot could date back as much as 1,000 years.

Agents receive training on environmental and cultural stewardship and sometimes find American Indian artifacts during patrols.
