A special guest visited a Phoenix elementary school Tuesday morning. He's best known for his career on the tennis court, but Andre Agassi has been spending a lot of time making a difference for kids.

The famous tennis player and number one world champion tennis player didn't go to kindergarten class to teach tennis.

"While you can learn a lot in tennis, this is about kids taking ownership of their lives," said Agassi.

He's here to open a new charter school with his name on it -- an elementary school in south Phoenix for at kids at risk. This is his mission now.

"It's incredibly rewarding. I've spent the last 15 years of my life in education trying to give the best options for kids."

Agassi was a high school drop out. He says he spent a life without education.

"I was lucky to fall back on tennis but God forbid my life did not have that fortune in it, I don't know where I would have ended up. Without education there is no hope, there is no future," said Agassi.

He is partnering with Eagle College Prep. His goal is to help build and fund more good schools for at-risk kids. He's asking kids to dream big.

"I'm saying dream while you are awake because you have the opportunity. It starts right here."

The champion tennis player is now a champion of good schools for kids in need.

Agassi picked Phoenix because of Mayor Greg Stanton. He likes the mayor's plans to improve schools here in town.
