BLYTHE, Calif. (AP) - California corrections officials say four inmates remain hospitalized after a brawl involving 461 inmates at Ironwood State Prison near the Arizona state line.
Officials said Tuesday that seven inmates were seriously injured in the melee at the Blythe prison that houses about 4,000 inmates.
Of the four still hospitalized, one has stab wounds, one swelling to the head, one fluid in the lungs and the other ear damage.
The brawl broke out Saturday in a medium security yard then spread to two other housing units.
Guards used pepper spray, batons, non-lethal rounds and a warning shot to stop it.
About 100 inmates were treated at the prison for minor bruises and scratches, and an officer hurt when an inmate threw a rock that hit his leg was hospitalized and released.
