How many couples get the chance to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary? We met up with a Glendale couple who tied the knot back in 1942.

It's a milestone that not many people reach -- 70 years of marriage. What's their secret to a happy life together?

"Just to love each other and I think every day we're thankful to still have each other," says Hope Singleton.

Hope and Earl Singleton got married back in October 1942 after Ken joined the service. Back then a gallon of gas cost just 15 cents.

"We got married in October '42 and he was already in the service," says Hope. "We stayed together."

Seventy years together -- an amazing accomplishment!

"I think it's a blessing, I wouldn't call it luck, I would call it a blessing, and church has always been important in our life," says Hope.

A sense of community has helped keep the Singletons active. But if time permits, why don't other couples stay together for 70 years?

"Too busy going their own way and not doing things together."

The Singletons organize weekly sing-a-longs with other senior citizens at the Glendale Adult Center. They love to see their friends, but they never chime in too loudly.

"No we sing but we don't sing well, enough to get up," says Hope.

Their friends at the senior center serenaded the happy couple today, celebrating 70 years of matrimonial bliss.

The Singletons dated for just a few months before getting hitched. They have two children, three grandsons, and six great-grandchildren.
