Feed the hungry with one empty bowl

Posted: Updated:

Artists and craftsmen from across the state are coming together to feed the valley's hungry.

These beautifully hand-thrown and locally-fired bowls hold more than just food, they aim to help the hunger problem in Phoenix.

Buy one handmade, ceramic bowl and provide 75 nutritious meals for the hungry.

Friends and members of The Arizona Clay Association made thousands of "empty bowls" from clay donated by Marjon Ceramics and Laguna Clay.

Customers can buy a bowl by donating at least $12 and will get it filled with lunch donated by Sam's Cafe.

All proceeds will go to Waste Not, a food rescue and delivery program.

The bowls serve as a reminder that someone else's bowl is always empty.

"Statistically one out of every four children go to bed hungry so this is a very important event for the people in the valley," says Lee Carroll of Arizona Clay Association.

"It's a neat event for the potters and artists to be part of because it's something we have a passion for."

Just $12 gets you a bowl and the knowledge that 75 people were fed by your contribution.  Last year, they raised $25,000 through their efforts and this year, the total nearly doubled to $48,000.
