Donald Trump's YouTube offer falls flat

Posted: Updated:

All America was on edge: Donald Trump promised a big announcement today about President Obama.

Would it be an "October surprise" that would derail the president's candidacy? As it turned out, the bomb Mr. Trump was trying to drop appears to be a dud.

Donald Trump posted a YouTube video this morning via Twitter.

"If Barack Obama opens up and gives his college records and gives his passport applications and records I will give to a charity of his choice," he said.

A five million dollar check. But there's a catch.

"When he does that to my satisfaction, if it is complete, this check is delivered immediately," said Trump.

Records delivered to trump's satisfaction, whatever that means.

We went to downtown Phoenix to ask folks if this was a great idea or really dumb. Our poll was unscientific, but looks like "really dumb" won.

"A stunt… because no other candidate has been asked to do that," says Lisa Phalen.

"We have heard it too much, he has provided his records to everybody," says James Merriott.

The president got a little advice.

"If I were him I would gather all the records and my payoff would be, he leaves the country, and we don't have to hear from him anymore because he has such a big mouth," laughs Kitty Rickel.

But the Donald did get at least a little love.

"Trump is good, I like him, but I do not think the president will do anything… I do not think he will," says Gary Hackbarth.
