PHOENIX -

A Paradise Valley High School student was hit by a school bus while riding her bicycle Tuesday morning.

A 17-year-old girl was hit about 7:30 a.m. near 40th Street and Grovers, between Bell and Union Hills Roads. The school is less than a mile from where she was hit.

The girl was riding her bike against traffic and against the traffic light when the bus hit her as it was turning on a green light, officers said.

She was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Brittany Thomas's father said she has a broken arm, some internal bleeding and some cuts and scratches.

"I'm very shaken up," said Jeff Thomas."I'm just tore up something like this would happen."

Brittany rides her bike almost every day to school. She is expected to make a full recovery.

The bus driver was not cited.
