Powerball pandemonium: Check your numbers here

Posted: Updated:

Powerball pandemonium is in full effect. Millions of people across 42 states vying for the Powerball jackpot, which has stretched to over $500 million.

THE WINNING NUMBERS: 5, 16, 22, 23, 29, PB 6

Even though the odds are stalked against you, folks have already decided what they'll do if they win a big jackpot. It's nice to dream, isn't it?

Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald bought 3 tickets and promised to share the winnings with everyone who shared his picture on their Facebook page.

At last count, more than 73,000 shared the picture – so if Larry wins that's about $7,500 each.

Sometimes winning the lottery can actually be a curse – lots of publicity and attention you might not want. Some winners would probably rather remain anonymous. But in Arizona, that's not allowed.

Only 5 states allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.

In Arizona however, winners are given the option of participating in a press conference. But the Arizona lottery is required to release the winner's name, the city they live in, which game they won and how much they won.

The drawing Wednesday night for the Multi-State Lottery Association's prize followed 16 consecutive drawings that produced no top winner, boosting the Powerball to become the second-largest potential lottery payout in U.S. history.  Powerball officials say they believe there is a 75 percent chance the winning combination will be drawn Wednesday.
Tickets earlier in the day were selling at a rate of 130,000 a minute nationwide, the mega-jackpot enticing many people who rarely, if ever, play the lottery.
Powerball's record jackpot follows a Mega Millions drawing in March, when three ticket buyers shared a $656 million jackpot, which remains the largest lottery payout of all time.

It may be until Thursday morning until we find out where the winning ticket was sold -- and if there are any winners in Arizona.
