One of the two winning Powerball tickets was sold in Fountain Hills, Arizona. The jackpot soared to nearly $600-million before the drawing Wednesday night -- so that winning ticket is worth $294 million!
We talked to people who work at the Four Sons store where the ticket was sold. Inside the Four Sons, it's somewhat of a celebration.
"I am just happy to know that the winning ticket came from behind this counter," said one worker.
Customers rushed to check their tickets after hearing the winner is from Arizona.
"I didn't even look at my ticket until this morning because I just wanted to dream all night," says Fountain Hills resident Bob Kanges.
The news spread fast in Fountain Hills. Everyone is now wondering who has the winning ticket.
"It is the little old lady I let go ahead. I was just being a Good Samaritan and that is the way it happens right!" says Kanges.
"In fact there is one we are thinking of. We won't say who, but we are thinking of somebody," says employee Marge Rosenberger.
Marge Rosenberger has worked at the Four Sons store for 18 years.
"I think it's wonderful. I thought it was great. It couldn't have happened to nicer people who live in Fountain Hills."
We heard some rumors in the city Thursday night -- that it was a 28-year-old bartender that came into the convenience store everyday to get his or her coffee. But that's just hearsay.
The winner has not come forward yet -- but one way or another, we'll find out who it is. In Arizona, lottery winners are required to be identified. The winner can opt out of some publicity events, but their name will have to be on record until they can receive their winnings.
For that lucky winner, the lottery has some suggestions.
"Sign your ticket. It is so important to get that ticket signed. Of course keep the ticket safe," says Karen Bach, Arizona Lottery.
"And with all of our winners we recommend they seek out a financial adviser to guide them through this exciting process."
If the winner decides to take the cash payout, he'll split nearly $400 million dollars with the other winner in Missouri.
The Four Sons store will get a $25,000 bonus from the lottery.
The second winning ticket was sold at a Trex Mart in Dearborn, Missouri, near Kansas City.
The store sold about $27,000 worth of tickets in the days leading up to the drawing. Workers there are excited about the big win, but also say there's a good chance the buyer was from out of town.
"With being a truck stop it could be a trucker that passed, cause we get a lot of people from out of town, but a lot of our truckers are local, I mean they come here all the time, so we get to know them you know. So it doesn't matter it's just awesome that one of us could have touched that ticket," says Trex Mart employee Kristi.
The owner of the Trex Mart will get $50,000 for selling the winning ticket. He says he'll use the money to give his staff Christmas bonuses.
And in case you missed them... the winning numbers were 5 - 16 - 22 - 23 - 29 - Powerball 6.
