TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Tucson police say they've arrested four women they say were part of an organized gang that shoplifted tens of thousands of dollars' worth of cosmetics, jewelry and other merchandise from area retailers.

Officers have arrested 25-year-old Jessica Rodriquez, 31-year-old Melesia Romo, 33-year-old Veronica Munoz and 20-year-old Karla Castro.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Maria Hawke says in a statement that police have a warrant for 27-year-old Karina Ortiz, a fifth woman they suspect was involved in the ring.

Hawke says a retailers' organization told police earlier this year that a group of women shoplifters appeared to be targeting CVS stores. After police launched an investigation in August they learned the women were targeting several other retailers as well.

Hawke said Tuesday that detectives learned the women were transferring the stolen merchandise to others who then sold it at a local swap meet. Police say they recovered more than $100,000 in merchandise.
