Father leaves 3-year-old in car during alleged burglaries

MESA, Ariz. -

A man was arrested after allegedly leaving his 3-year-old daughter in a vehicle while breaking into three cars on Sunday.

Police say 34-year-old Cory William Evans was seen burglarizing a vehicle at the In-and-Out Burger at Stapley Drive and US 60.

Witnesses gave a description of Evans' car and officers found it across the street in a Walmart shopping complex.

Police say they found Evans' 3-year-old daughter sitting alone in his vehicle.

Evans allegedly knew police had found his vehicle and were looking for him. He tried to walk out of the parking lot but officers say they caught him first.

Witnesses identified Evans as the suspect. Evans told police he was visiting from Colorado.

Officers found stolen items from three vehicle burglaries in Evans' vehicle.

child Protective Services released the little girl to her mother.
Evans was booked on charges of vehicle burglary and child endangerment.
