County supervisor rejects leader role over Rotary duty

Posted: Updated:

NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) - A Santa Cruz County supervisor has declined to be board chairman because he is worried it would interfere with his duties at the Rotary Club.

Supervisor John Maynard asked that his regular rotation as the board's leader be deferred. The Nogales International reports Maynard was scheduled to take over as board chair but declined at the Dec. 19 meeting.

Maynard told the other two supervisors his "potential commitment" as chairman of his Rotary Club would make it difficult to serve as chair.

Fellow supervisor Rudy Molera question if the volunteer role was that demanding and Maynard said it was.

Both the supervisors and the rotary meeting on Wednesdays.

All three Santa Cruz supervisors were elected to new 4-year terms in November. They make $63,800 a year plus benefits.
