WAUKEGAN, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police in north suburban Waukegan are warning residents of a recent increase in armed robberies at ATMs.

At least two men approach people attempting to use ATMs after dark and order them at gunpoint to hand over their cash or withdraw more money, according to a release from Waukegan police.

The robbers successfully stole money from two of the four victims, police said. Nobody was injured.

The suspects are described as men in their late teens wearing ski masks and carrying black handguns, police said.

"The Waukegan Police Department stresses that people should avoid using ATMs after dark," Waukegan police Chief Daniel Greathouse said in the release. "If you find that you must utilize an ATM after dark, please use one that is located indoors at a business such as a grocery or department store."

Greathouse said police have "several" leads. Nobody is in custody.
