Injured hiker rescued from the Sonoran Preserve

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

The Scottsdale Fire Department rescued a 60-year-old male who was injured while hiking in the Sonoran Preserve, at Lost Dog Wash Trail.

According to Scottsdale Fire Capt. Danny Ables, the victim was out walking for two hours Sunday afternoon when he tripped and fell, injuring himself.

The victim was stuck about a half mile up the trail, unable to walk.

Scottsdale Fire crews used a "big wheel" to rescue the victim. 16 firefighters responded, and assisted the man down.

He was transported to Scottsdale-Shea Medical Center with a minor head and knee injury.

"Always walk with a buddy, tell someone where you are going, what time you are expected back, bring plenty of water, wear proper shoes, bring a cell phone, and wear sun screen," reminds Capt. Ables.
