Bret Michaels donates to valley therapeutic horse ranch

Posted: Updated:

A valley rocker is giving back to the community with donations from his charity concert in December.

In May 2011, Bret Michaels saw a feature on Camelot Therapeutic Horse Ranch on FOX 10. Camelot provides private lessons with children, to help them learn the basics of caring for and riding horses.

Michaels immediately wanted to become involved with the organization, and eventually he and his two daughters began sponsoring a horse named Barbara. The girls visit Camelot and groom and feed the horse regularly.

In December 2012, Michaels had a concert at Celebrity Theatre benefiting charities like Camelot. He says recovering from his own medical challenges makes it easy to relate.

"Relearning to use your arms, your legs, walk -- a brain bleed is horrendous and after that the heart surgery and all this other crazy stuff. What I hope with students, that they learn out just being out here in the outdoors and being around horses," said Michaels.

"To be able to be out here is therapeutic for them as much mentally as it is physically."

The "Poison" star is giving back to his Arizona community by presenting a check to Camelot through his Life Rocks Foundation on Wednesday.
