Traveling in 2013? Get ready to pay more

Posted: Updated:

If you need to fly, get ready for some changes with ticket prices.

Expect airfares to increase at least 5 to 6 percent.  Fuel costs are higher, so airlines are passing that on to consumers.

Flyers know it's not about the fares anymore, it's about the fees.

Travelers are tired of being nickel and dimed, so bundling is going to be a big deal this year.

Instead of separate baggage fees or cancellation fees, all of those will be bundled into one fee -- even if you don't want some of the items they're bundling.

Some airlines are putting together custom packages for round trips that include everything from on-board meals and priority boarding.

You will still be able to get good deals on off-peak days: Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, along with off-peak season: January and February.

Seating will be tight unless you're in first class.

Some airlines are adding new planes where the seats will be more comfortable.

Many expect American Airlines and US Airways will merge this year, leaving fewer seats and less competition.

There are also some fake deals online. For instance, scammers are targeting travelers using Instagram by using a fraudulent American Airlines account -- offering a free round trip ticket.

There are several fake Twitter and Instagram handles offering free tickets or some type of great giveaway, getting users to click on a link -- which scammers use to obtain personal information.
