HALL COUNTY, Ga. -

School officials in Hall County say the threat they received concerning Flowery Branch High School on Monday was a hoax.

They say the apparent threat came from a post on Instagram, but the threat was not specific.

One student told FOX 5 that the message contained threats to shoot up the school sometime on Monday, possibly during one of the lunch periods.

Students who received the message told the school principal, Dr. Mark Coleman. Some students began texting their parents after they arrived at the school, said school officials. They said school remained in session, but extra security was added.

Many parents came to the school and took their kids home early.

"I am just a protector by nature," said parent Mark Ramos. "So I'm not taking any chances for something like that. I'm coming to get my one and only little girl. But if we would have gotten this message over the weekend, we would already have been in touch with somebody to let them know."

Hall County Schools spokesman Gordon Higgins says Dr. Coleman immediately contacted law enforcement and they quickly arrived on the scene.

"They were here at 8 o'clock this morning to start the investigation. They are here now conducting their investigation. They're interviewing students, some of whom received these messages, to find out if they know who in fact could have sent them. At this point, the students, some of whom received the messages, have no idea who sent it," said Higgins.

One student, Esteban Ortiz, tells FOX 5 that he was scared and that he couldn't imagine a shooting happening at his school.

Authorities in Hall County said on Tuesday they identified 18-year-old Tiffani Torres of Flowery Branch as the person responsible for making the statements. Torres was arrested and has been charged with disruption of a public school. She is being held in the Hall County Jail under a $1,000 bond.
