Hundreds of couples renew vows in Fountain Hills

FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz. -

Lovebirds from all over the country flocked to Fountain Hills on this Valentine's Day. They were trying to beat a world record for the largest vow renewal ceremony in the world.

750 couples were there, so unfortunately, they fell short of the 1,100-couple record.

We heard stories about how couples met and how they fell in love -- and how they manage to keep that spark going.

With the fountain as a backdrop, "We rejoice in their continuing love for each other were grateful for the ties of love."

Hundreds said "I do" all over again.

Harold and Arlie Denomme have been married 58 years. Hark and Barbara Cipolaro have been married 10 years. They still remember the moment they fell in love.

"When he came to pick me up for a Diamondbacks game I didn't think he was going to show up because I hadn't heard from him in two days. He showed up a half an hour early, he knocked on the door and said I just couldn't wait any longer. I think that was it, the very moment," says Barbara.

"It brings tears to my eyes. I lived in Cambridge and I was watching the Bruins game on TV and he helped my roommate and I with a Christmas tree that Christmas. He was such a good guy," says Kathy Elson. She and her husband Dan have been married 40 years.

Having a sense of humor -- and knowing how to compromise are very important. What's their secrets?

"You've got to give into each other all the time," says Harold Denomme.

"I think you just have to wait and find someone that you know in your heart is the right person," says Barbara Cipolaro.

There was also a couple somewhere in the crowd that had been married for 77 years. Another couple got engaged.
