Chicago favorite Devin Velez survives sudden death on `American Idol`

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Thursday night showed a split decision for the Chicago favorites competing to be the next "American Idol."

JDA is out. In the end, it came down to Devin Velez or Johnny Keyser. The judges picked Devin. He survived the sudden death round and will sing again next week.

Devin performed "Listen" by Beyonce. He decided to sing half the song in Spanish, and finally impressed a reluctant Randy Jackson. Mariah Carey said she can't wait for Devin to get in the studio.

The "Idol" hopeful spoke with Good Day Chicago about how he's handling the pressure so far.

"American Idol" airs here on FOX 32, Wednesday and Thursday nights.
