City Hall security guard charged with stealing from bin

ATLANTA -

A checkpoint guard at Atlanta City Hall was charged with swiping a wallet from a security bin and then using stolen credit cards to go on a shopping spree.

Authorities said that Rosetta Brinson was charged with taking credit cards from a wallet placed in a plastic bin by an employee of Mayor Kasim Reed while that victim was passing through a security checkpoint.

Brinson then allegedly used the cards while wearing her security uniform. She allegedly spent $300 at a Kroger's, a gas station and paying off a cell phone bill.

Jeff Bohling, a spokesperson for Norred Security, the company that employed Brinson, said in a statement, "This woman had no criminal background. Passed a drug check and was fully trained and qualified. When we determined there was a wallet missing we assisted in the investigation and her immediate arrest."

3/1/2013 UPDATE: FOX 5 has learned that Brinson no longer faces charges. A statement from the Fulton County DA's office reads:

"On Monday, February 25, 2013, charges against Defendant Rosetta Brinson who was charged with one count each of Financial Transaction Card Theft and Financial Transaction Card Fraud were placed on the Dead Docket contingent upon Ms. Brinson's successful completion of Pre-Trial Intervention. According to the terms of her PTI, Defendant Brinson must make restitution to victim David McCord and perform 80 hours of community service.   Mr. McCord indicates to the District Attorney's Office that he has no desire to be vindictive towards Ms. Brinson and is satisfied with the disposition of this matter.
