A female motorcyclist died as a result of injuries she suffered when colliding with an SUV, at Rural and Broadway, Tuesday night.

21-year-old Elsa Tovar of Tempe was transported to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. She is not an ASU student, Tempe Police Lt. Scott Smith said.

Tempe Police say the SUV was heading westbound and was attempting to make a left hand turn onto Rural Road as the motorcyclist was heading east on Broadway. Both vehicles then collided, just before 6 p.m.

Police say the driver of the SUV, 32-year-old Veronica Muckerman, was impaired by alcohol at the time of the collision. She had her 9-and 12-year-old daughters inside with her. The children were uninjured.

Muckerman was taken into custody on charges of aggravated DUI and manslaughter.
