Two Cobb County 911 operators have been honored for helping to save a woman's life. Cherie Estes and Cullen Bragg were able to track down an aggravated assault victim with just a cell phone signal.

Bragg says that he'll always remember a call he took in May of last year.

"You could hear a woman screaming, and you could hear some thud sound. That's all you could really hear. And you could hear her say, ‘Help! Help!,'" said Bragg.

Estes answered the call, but she asked for his help because the muffled call was coming from a cell phone and they didn't have an exact address.

"People don't realize that we do not know, when you call on a cell phone, where you are," Bragg said.

All they had was the latitude and longitude, so Bragg used some special software to track the call down to this house on ridge court in Mableton.

That's where police found 53-year-old Jeffrey James Lee beating his 27-year-old girlfriend while her hands were tied.

Police say lee had been attacking her for seven hours with a pipe.

"I don't consider myself a hero. I consider Cherie the hero," Bragg said.

Even though he gives all the credit to his co-worker, Cullen believes there was divine intervention in the call that saved a woman's life because it turns out it was an accidental.

"I personally think she had an angel on her shoulder that was with her," said Bragg.

Bragg and Estes received the Communications Team Award this week at the Georgia Emergency Communications Conference in Atlanta.

In January, Jeffery Lee pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated battery and was sentenced to nine years in prison.
