Video Shows Gunshots Fired During Bank Robbery Attempt

Posted: Updated:

The FBI released surveillance video Wednesday of a bank robbery attempt with gunshots fired early Saturday morning in Willow Grove.

It was 6:45 a.m. when a man dressed in all black, wearing a mask and carrying a handgun rushed up on two employees arriving for work and preparing to open the bank, Abington Township police said.

The employees managed to get the door closed and locked, but the gunman fired a shot that shattered the glass front door.

The gunman then stepped through the broken glass door and grabbed one employee, dragging him back into the bank. The other employee managed to run into the back of the bank and escaped out a rear door, police said.

The gunman fired a second shot inside and dragged the other employee to the rear area of the bank.

After threatening this employee, the gunman fled through the rear of the bank without getting any money.

Police said both employees suffered superficial injuries but did not require medical attention. No customers were in the bank at the time.

According to police, the suspect is described as a black male dressed all in black with a black, zip-front, hooded sweatshirt with the hood up. He had on a black mask that covered most of his face and was armed with a black-colored handgun.

He drove off in a mid-size, black SUV with chrome wheels. The Pennsylvania registration may begin "ERC," and the vehicle left the area southbound on Fitzwatertown Road , then made a right onto Oklahoma Road.

The vehicle was occupied by a second person and may have been parked on Carnation Avenue, Oklahoma Road, or possibly in the entrance to the Twin Brooks Townhouses just before the robbery.

Abington Police are asking anyone who may have seen a vehicle in that area Saturday between 6:15 and 7 a.m. to call them at 267-536-1100 and select #3, or call the FBI at 215-418-4000.
