SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

Scottsdale Police shot and killed a man who was involved in a dispute with a neighbor Wednesday night.

Officers were called to the area of 87th Street and Osborn just before 6 p.m. regarding an ongoing dispute between two neighbors about parking.

A woman called police to say her neighbor had illegally parked his pickup on the sidewalk and that it was an ongoing problem.

Officers arrived to speak with her and noticed the illegally parked truck. An officer issued the truck a parking citation.

Then, Preston Phillips Jr. pulled up in a white SUV next to the officer and the illegally parked truck.

When the officer approached the driver's side of the SUV, Phillips drew a gun and displayed it. The officer, feeling threatened, fired upon him.

72-year-old Phillips died of his injuries. No officers were hurt.

The officer involved in the shooting has been put on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
