Group of women attacked on CTA Red Line

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police arrested 10 juveniles and one adult after they attacked a group of women aboard a CTA Red Line train about 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

All 11 were charged with battery. Two of the juveniles were also charged with strong-arm robbery, police said.

The women reported the robbery after they got off the train at the State and Monroe station, police said.

In a separate act of mob violence, 17 were arrested Saturday after a fight on the Magnificant Mile broke out.

The downtown area in recent years has endured a number of similar, seemingly-planned incidents -- sometimes referred to as "wildings."

In June 2011 Mayor Rahm Emanuel vowed to increase police presence downtown after several people were robbed in the same area by groups of teen males in a series of separate attacks.

Seven teens were charged in June 2012, after attacking a tourist and a local man leaving the Chicago Blues Festival in Grant Park.
