CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Three children left inside a running car on the South Side were hospitalized for carbon monoxide sickness Monday afternoon.

Paramedics found the children -- ages 1, 5 and 11 -- inside a car with a bad exhaust system that had been running for an extended period of time in the 400 block of West 79th Street, according to Fire Media Affairs.

The children were taken in "stable" condition to the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, the fire department said about 4:40 p.m.

An EMS Plan 1 response was automatically initiated, sending five ambulances.
