Lucha Libre stars spread anti-bullying message

Posted: Updated:

Lucha Libre wrestlers are tackling a common problem that students face in Phoenix. Two masked fighters told students Tuesday how they were bullied, how to stop bullying, and then went "mano a mano."

The men behind the masks of Lucha Libre's body slams, choke outs, and punches have a soft side.

Luchadors Lizmark Junior and Kick-Out showed up at Joseph Zito Elementary to fight bullying and each other.

"We speak about life when we were kids, we suffered the same thing," says Lizmark Jr.

The luchadors use their star power to get their message across.

"It's our job as these larger than life characters to tell these kids that everything's going to be okay and to have fun. Be kids, but if bullying does happen you need to speak up and not go down the wrong path when it does," says Kick-Out.

Lizmark Jr. and Kick-Out shared their life stories with the kids and then duked it out on the mat. After the match, the wrestlers tag teamed a Q&A session with the students.

Joseph Zito's principal never would have believed the students' enthusiasm.

"They're very popular, I don't think I realized how popular they were. We put a couple of pictures out of who are guests were going to be and it really sparked their interest. I think we have perfect attendance today," says Principal Kendra Moreno.

The Lucha Libre stars had one last message for the students before they tapped out.

"If you have dreams, if you want to be a lawyer or you want to be a doctor you want to be an astronaut, never take no for no answer and always go for your dreams."

Lucha Libre promised Joseph Zito students free tickets to their show at Grand Canyon University on April 21.

The students promised to put an end to bullying at the school.
