Man gets prison term on reduced charges in killing

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - A 28-year-old man has been sentenced to 6.5 years in prison after pleading guilty to reduced charges in the killing of a man whose burned body was found south of Prescott.

Joseph Parsons of Dewey and others in the case were charged with first-degree murder in the September killing of Clifford Williamson.

However, Parsons pleaded guilty in February to lesser charges that included facilitation to commit murder.

According to The Daily Courier, a plea agreement with prosecutors requires Parsons to testify against his three co-defendants.

Parsons was sentenced Tuesday in Yavapai County Superior Court.

A pre-sentence report recommended probation for Parsons, but Judge Tina Ainley said circumstances of Parsons' crimes warranted prison time because somebody died.
