A large fire is burning north of Luke Air Force Base, near Olive and Litchfield Road.
At least 100 tons of wood chips and brush piles are on fire -- and the fire has already charred some power poles and is threatening farm equipment.
The Rural Metro Fire Department is working to contain the blaze, but due to the high winds, they will not be able to immediately put it out.
"Really the only way to fight this fire is being right on top of it or upwind. If you or I were to take a house right now and try to spray it, it would come right back on us, so even the water being used out here sometimes is ineffective just because of the high winds," said Colin Williams, Rural Metro.
Firefighters say the fire may burn for a couple of days.
