'Crazy' brand marketing targets young consumers

Welcome to a modern day marketing strategy: the commercial campaign for Taco Bell's Doritos Locos Tacos. The key word for this food is "crazy." Taco Bell isn't the only brand on an "insane" advertising push.

Pizza Hut, also owned by the same parent company, is rolling out a Crazy Cheese Pizza.

These tactics are working, according to Yahoo! Finance. Taco Bell sold 325 million of its Doritos Locos Tacos in 2012.

TV host Chelsea Krost says using hot words like "crazy" is key to marketing to the younger generation, also known as the millennials, anyone between the ages of 12 and 30. This generation of consumers share when they love a product using social media like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. These multi-media platforms end up serving as additional free marketing for companies.

With 78 million people strong making up this millennial community, these companies aren't so crazy for marketing its products directly to them.

    Diner chain Denny's is opening it's first New York City location, complete with a big-city "deal".   How does a $300 breakfast sound?    The Denny's is located at the corner of Nassau and Spruce in Lower Manhattan's Financial District.  Along with its normal food you can get at just about any location in the rest of the country, this location will offer a Grand Slam breakfast with a bottle of 2003 Dom Perignon champagne.
