ORO VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) - Police in the Tucson suburb of Oro Valley say the shooting deaths of a couple were an apparent homicide-suicide.

Officers checking on the welfare of 78-year-old Clarence Shaub and 76-year-old Doris Shaub found the couple dead in their home Tuesday evening.

Oro Valley police Lt. Kara Riley says relatives said Clarence Shaub had an unspecified debilitating disease and that police found notes left by Doris Shaub.

According to Riley, preliminary results of the investigation indicate that Doris Shaub shot her husband and then herself.

Riley says police don't know if the killings were arranged by the couple.

Riley says officers went to the home after a relative of the Shaubs got a message from Doris Shaub.
