Information from the Valley Township Newsletter
RESIDENTS CALL TO ACTION:
"The PennDot Bureau of Aviation has mandated municipalities that have a Chester County Area Airport Hazard Zone within their territorial limits to adopt an Airport Hazard Zoning Ordinance.
The affected Townships to our knowledge are Valley, West Bradford, East Bradford, West Brandywine, Newlin, Sadsbury, East Fallowfield and Modena Borough. The Airport obtained grant funding to assist municipalities with the adoption of the ordinance by April 1, 2013. Each municipality is afforded $2,000 towards expenses for the adoption of the grant. Valley Township has opted not to use grant funding due to time limits to adopt the ordinance.
The Board would like additional time to consider the ordinance due to the language concerning the encroachment of trees into the hazard zone currently in the ordinance. As the ordinance stands it will be at the expense of the property owner to top or trim the affected tree; the Board would like to see legislation that would allow a user fee to be collected by airports from users of the airport that would then be used to fund the enforcement of this ordinance and also the topping of trees that encroach into the hazard zone. If you would like to have the legislation changed to provide for funding of keeping the Airport Hazard Zone clear of obstruction by some type of user fee instead of at the cost of the property owner who may or may not use the airport please contact your State officials and let them know."
