CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Firefighters in west suburban Wheaton were kept busy Thursday morning, responding to two fires minutes apart, one at a high school and one at a home just a few blocks away.

The first fire occurred at Wheaton North High School about 7 a.m., according to the Wheaton Fire Department. The fire occurred in a closet area within a classroom hallway. The closet is a science storeroom, school district officials said, and the small fire was brought under control within several minutes by the school's fire sprinkler system.

Classes had not yet started for the day, but the school was occupied. Everyone in the building was safely evacuated as fire personnel made sure it was safe for classes to begin.

In a statement emailed to parents, Community Unit School District 200 spokeswoman Erica Loiacono said, "When students arrived to school this morning they were directed to the fieldhouse until the fire department could secure the area."

The fire department has since determined it was safe for students to return to the building at 701 W. Thomas St. so classes could resume, she said.

Classes taking place in two wings of the building are being relocated. No students or staff were injured, the fire department and Loiacono said.

The second fire was reported about 7:10 a.m. at 25W330 Armbrust, according to the fire department. Firefighters found a single-family home, unoccupied, that was well-involved in fire, the release said. The fire was brought under control within an hour and no one was injured.

As of late Thursday morning, the cause of both fires was undetermined, and they are both being investigated by the Wheaton Fire and Police department, and the DuPage County Fire Investigation Task force. ATF agents are also investigating the school fire, a spokesman reported.

Details were not immediately available but the small fire occurred before classes began at the west suburban high school, a school district official said. Police had no details other than by about 8:30 a.m. the scene was secured.
