3 bears get new pool at conservation center

Posted: Updated:

A valley pool company is building a pool that will fit three bears just right.

Workers with California Pools will spend Wednesday building a place for three black bears to cool off at Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center.

Grizz, Igasho and Tahoe are about two years old and have outgrown a small pool in their habitat.

The bears were rescued by SWCC after they became too adjusted to humans to survive on their own.

Mike Smith, founder of California Pools, built the original bear pool at SWCC 20 years ago, as a last minute anniversary gift for his wife.

SWCC recently called Smith saying their bears only had a little black plastic tub to cool off in and would like to have a new pool built.

Smith, with help from Mike Zeitler of Hayward Industries, Kent Leach with Diversified Excavation, Bill Duncan of Duncan Plumbing and Curiel Steel, plans to finish the pool by the end of Wednesday.
