A Canadian woman is facing charges after border agents caught her at the Ambassador Bridge with a collection of loaded 9 mm handguns and ammunition magazines that she was allegedly trying to smuggle into Windsor.

The Canadian Border Services Agency says officers searched the woman's car and found the weapons on April 21. The CBSA has charged the LaSalle woman with making false statements, possession of unlawfully imported goods and smuggling.

"The CBSA places a high priority on the detection and interdiction of undeclared firearms and prohibited weapons," Rick Comerford, CBSA's regional director general for the southern Ontario region said in a statement. "This is the direct result of the diligent work of CBSA officers who use their examination skills, as well as overall training, to detect smuggling attempts."

The CBSA is reminding all travelers that they are required to answer all questions truthfully and declare all goods they are bringing into Canada, including firearms and weapons in their possession. The CBSA reminds that failure to declare goods, including firearms, and other Customs Act contraventions may lead to prosecution.
