PHOENIX -

Phoenix Police are investigating an incident involving an Arizona Cardinals player.

The ex-girlfriend of 26-year-old Daryl Washington, the Arizona Cardinals linebacker, has accused him of domestic violence assault. Officers were called to the woman's home just after 4 p.m. Wednesday.

"The caller was an adult female who indicated she was a victim of a domestic violence assault.  When officers arrived they spoke with the female who has alleged the individual involved in this altercation is Daryl Washington... We are precluded from providing details related to this investigation so as not to jeopardize the integrity of the case," stated Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos.

A source within the police department told us the woman said she got into a fight with Washington and he choked her. Our police source says the victim had marks on her throat.

He left the scene before police arrived.

Washington was already suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

He was the teams defensive MVP last year and made the pro bowl.

If this is true, that could be another devastating blow for him and the team.

Phoenix Police are attempting to locate Washington to question him about this incident. We don't know if he will be arrested, or just questioned.
