A player for the Arizona Cardinals was arrested after being accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington was charged with two counts of aggravated assault. His bond is set at $4,200.

He's already had some trouble this off-season. He's been suspended for 4 games for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Right after the alleged assault Wednesday evening, police could not find Washington.

Thursday, police said they talked to Washington and his attorney briefly, but he hadn't shown up for an interview at Phoenix Police headquarters.

The allegation against him is pretty serious. A woman called police to tell them Washington assaulted her inside of her apartment in Ahwatukee on Wednesday afternoon.

"From the police presence that was out here, it seemed pretty sad to know that someone like that was that badly sick," says neighbor Chris Ransom.

Police got there and say the alleged victim had marks on her throat. She said told police she got into an argument with Washington and he choked her. The two have a 5-month-old baby girl together.

Thursday morning, she didn't want to talk, saying she'd been advised not to talk about what happened.

"I've seen her out every now and then, she seems really nice, kind of waves," says Ransom.

According to court records, she has not let Washington see his baby. In a motion filed by Washington he claims, she's "making demands for money in return for parenting time."

The following is text messages between Washington and the alleged victim.

Washington: "Looking forward to seeing my baby tomorrow."

Baby's mother: "Not at my house..."

Washington: "That's fine I will come pick her up. Cool with you? My mom wants to see her."

Baby's mother: "Nope sorry we're busy."

On the Cardinals website, the team wrote, "These are serious accusations that we are closely monitoring. Until all the facts are determined, and out of respect for the process, we will decline any further comment at this point."
