Winter won't interrupt MN couple's spring wedding

Posted: Updated:
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

You're getting married. You have the chapel, reception hall and wedding dress all picked out…

…but what if the weather doesn't cooperate?

Even with cold rain and maybe an occasional flake in the forecast, Kassi Menon and Chris Maher are keeping a positive attitude.

"The most important part is that all of our friends and family will be there," Chris said.

With nearly 200 guests already coming, they have to get married tomorrow.

"I have family from India because that's where my dad is from," Kassi said.

We are officially entering the wedding season, and bridal stores like Mary Kay's are stocked with gowns and ready for business despite the unusual spring weather.

"We want to be selling prom dresses and the strapless and they come in cold and they don't want to take their clothes off and try on dresses," owner Mary Kay Hawkes said.

Hawkes says after 23 years in the business, she's only seen a few situations where a wedding got canceled.

"The groom is married, someone got pregnant, or there's been a death," Hawkes said.

If you don't want the weather to cramp your style, wedding planners say be open to accessories that could help you out, like a cape or a shawl to put over the dress.

The good news for this soon to be married couple is they planned the wedding to be indoors.

Kassi has a gorgeous wedding gown ready to wear.

"My fiance has not seen it, so I am really excited to see his reaction tomorrow," Kassi said.

Chris and Kassi should be walking down the aisle, and their love and commitment is enough to weather any storm.

"It's really about us entering into holy matrimony, getting married, and that's what it all boils down to," Chris said.
