There are new developments surrounding the disappearance of a 5-year-old girl who went missing from a Scottsdale apartment complex Sunday night.

That little girl is safe -- but police are now questioning a man they believe lured the little girl into his car. She was missing for more than four hours before police found her.

Right now police say they don't know why Mario Salgado allegedly did this. He is still in custody.

Police say Salgado lives at the apartment complex, and lured the 5-year-old into his car and drove around with her. They ended up at a friend's house, and that friend turned him in.

"I didn't know, I didn't know nothing," says Rogelio Cruz.

Rogelio Cruz says he had no idea the 5-year-old girl inside of his house, playing with his 7-year-old son, had been reported missing.

"She looked okay," he says.

Cruz says his friend, Mario Salgado, looked nervous and drunk when they showed up at his house in Phoenix on Sunday night. Salgado told Cruz the girl was his stepdaughter and had just crossed the border illegally.

"My child is 7 years old and they start to play and the little girl speak English very good. That's strange, she's coming from Mexico and she speak English very good?" says Cruz.

Then Cruz says he got a call from a mutual friend who told him police were looking for Salgado because a 5-year-old girl went missing from the apartment complex where Salgado lives. Cruz called police.

Salgado was taken into custody. Cruz says he and his family were questioned all night long then finally let go. Parents who live in the complex say it's a good reminder to keep your guard up at all times.

"Parent supervision is paramount to prevent any type of abduction," says neighbor Chris Fackovec.

Police are they're still trying to figure out what exactly happened and what to charge Salgado with before he's booked into jail.
