Tamika Fletcher: DIY beauty products you can make in your own kitchen!

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Beauty products can sometimes break the bank. But you may have everything you need in your pantry. DIY and natural hair expert TamikaFletcher explained how you can make beauty products in your own kitchen!

Here are some tips to expand on what she brought to Good Day Chicago:

As with practically every household item, natural bug spray can be made inexpensively and naturally at home. This recipe literally takes just seconds to mix up.

What you will need:

  • Unscented lotion
  • Citronella or/and eucalyptus, lemon, lavender, or peppermint
  • 60 drops of Essential oils for every two oz

Temperatures are rising and prom, formals and weddings are just around the corner! Which means our skin needs a little help after a long dry winter! After giving your body a good buff with a yummy D.I.Y. sugar scrub, add a little shimmer to your lotion to get that perfect glow (without having to spend any money!).

What you'll need:

  • Face bronzer or loose eye shadow
  • Unscented lotion

1. Combine 4 parts lotion with ½ teaspoon gold shimmer (or measure by sprinkling the shimmer until desired shade is achieved).

2. Stir with chopstick until color is consistent , then direct it towards one side for scooping.

3. Spoon out your creation and transfer it into the jar.

OR melt in a Pyrex:

  • 1/2 c Cocoa butter
  • 1/2 c Shea butter
  • 1/2 c Beeswax
  • 1 c Jojoba oil
  • Essential oils (optional)

If you're looking for a natural way to lighten your hair without nasty chemicals or expensive trips to the salon, then you can lighten your hair with something you probably have in your kitchen: lemon juice. Lemon juice will lighten your hair gradually; even when your roots grow out, they will just add depth to the new color instead of looking unnatural.

What you'll need:

  • Chamomile tea
  • Vodka
  • Fresh lemon juice

Instead of adding just flowers to your favorite summer hat add herbs like fresh thyme, rosemary, and mint to repel annoying summer bugs like fly's and Mosquito's. Who says repelling Mosquito's can't be chic and stylish!
