"Zombies Ahead:" Pranksters change street sign

Posted: Updated:
GOODYEAR, Ariz. -

Our cameras caught an unusual sight in the west valley – a traffic sign warning drivers of "zombies ahead."

The sign is on Dysart Road just north of McDowell.

"I was just driving down Dysart and instead of saying the typical road closure it said zombies ahead," laughs Brian Devous.

The company says a worker left a list of the codes on the machine which likely led to the hijinks.

"For some reason they left the code inside and I guess some kids came by and figured it out and reprogrammed it," said Danny Resendes, American Traffic Services. "It's a good little laugh."

Most drivers took it as a joke, but Brian Devous says for a second, he didn't.

"A little bit, especially with all the zombies, Walking Dead and stuff like that!"

By 3:30 Thursday afternoon the sign had been fixed. Crews said they'll be more careful not to leave codes out.

There is no zombie apocalypse in Arizona.
