Parents of abandoned girl still not located

PHOENIX -

Today police identified a little girl who was dropped off at Phoenix Fire Station, but they still can't find her parents.

Wednesday, a man handed the girl over to firefighters and told them her mother was using drugs and not caring for her.

Police know the little girl's name but they're not releasing it yet.

It's been nearly two full days since she was taken to the fire station and her parents still haven't come looking for her.

When the public saw the image of this little girl Thursday, police got an overwhelming response and information that helped them identify her.

"We understand that one of the first callers who called Phoenix Police Department got some information from her friend's Facebook. That first caller was from out of state and recognized this young child and knew the child's mother and some extended family," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Steve Martos.

Police have been in contact with some of the girl's extended family and they believe they are close to finding her mother. It seems dad is out of the picture, and the child may have a disability that makes it tough for her to communicate.

"She was unable to provide her name or her parents' names or where she lived, which made it difficult for us to conduct any follow up to find her parents."

The little girl has scars under her eye and above her lip. Police are concerned she could have siblings in the mother's care.

"It is imperative that our detectives get a hold of mom. We want to make sure that she's ok then question her about not only what transpired over the last couple of days but obviously the history of her and her children," said Martos.

The little girl attended Martin Luther King Jr. School in Phoenix, but school officials declined to comment.

The little girl is still in CPS custody. If you have any information on this child's parents contact the Phoenix Police Department.
