CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A hit-and-run crash involving a church van on the Kennedy Expressway hospitalized 14 people Saturday night, bringing busy northbound traffic to a halt.

About 8:30 p.m., a church van from Milwaukee was travelling on the northbound Kennedy, driving in the left-center lane. Another vehicle, travelling in the right-center lane, tried to make an illegal lane change, Illinois State Police District Chicago said.

The injured included two people and "a small child" described as seriously injured.

The vehicle, described as a white van, merged into the left-center lane, clipping the church van's front bumper, state police. The impact caused the church van to lose control.

A Mini Cooper then rear-ended the church van, which then hit a Toyota Camry, state police said.

They were taken to hospitals including Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center and the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center.

Chicago fire officials said none of the injuries appeared to be life threatening, but the expressway closure caused major backups on a typically delay-free Saturday night.

All four northbound lanes of the expressway were closed after the crash, but were reopened about an hour later.
