Weather Service To Survey Possible Tornado Damage In Del.

Posted: Updated:

As wild weather moved through the region Monday, many are wondering if a tornado touched down in Delaware.

New Castle County's Robscott Manor section is basically shut down after a possible tornado ripped through and uprooted several trees.

At least a dozen homes have some kind of damage.

One family says a tree burst right though their home just as they took cover.

"My wife was sitting on the couch I told her to come down to the lower level. She said she'd come down. Thank God she did. As soon as she came down, the tree came right through," said Thomas Boyle, whose house was destroyed by a tree.

"That car's wrecked. That car in the driveway is wreaked. Our garage is wreaked. Our house is all opened up."

Officials say no one was hurt.

The National Weather Service is expected in the area Tuesday to investigate whether it was a tornado that caused the damage.

FOX 29's Stephanie Esposito was moving around the area on Tuesday morning to show images of what the storm left behind.

You can hear generators buzzing loudly because of the mess. The neighborhood is still without power, although power crews out here trying to restore things and they've done a wonderful job of clearing debris from the street.

Unfortunately, people are dealing with some long-term effects here. Several have been forced from their homes, and we're seeing lots of notices popping up on the doors saying they cannot go inside.

The Red Cross is helping several people.

In one spot, a tree was ripped up from the ground and went right through the family's living room. A big picture window can be seen laying on the floor. The couch is exposed, as are children's toys. Thankfully, the family was not home when it happened.

Nobody was home at their neighbors except for the dogs, which were a little bit skittish Tuesday.

The neighbor said that whatever it was, straight-line winds or a tornado, he believes it came right through his backyard, which he had just finished sprucing up in the past few months. The fence is damaged, brick pavers are moved and his generator is running. A tree fell across his shed and unfortunately went right in his neighbors' house.

Residents are awaiting word on whether it was a tornado or not as this could determine their situation for insurance coverage.

We know it definitely was a tornado that hit outside of Baltimore. Footage from there shows a garage in Woodbine, Md., reduced to just little more than twigs and debris. There was a lot of flooding there and in so many of the other communities right around Baltimore.
