Cab driver dies after stabbed in eye with umbrella

Posted: Updated:

NEW YORK (AP) - Brooklyn community advocates are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect in the killing of a livery cab driver.

No weapon has been recovered. But investigators say he may have been stabbed with the metal tip of an umbrella.

Officers responded to a car crash at Lott Avenue and Boyland Street in Brownsville at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday. They discovered the driver inside a 2000 Mercury with a stab wound to the eye.

He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

His name was not immediately released.

The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers is offering a $3,000 reward. The group 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care is offering another $2,000.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
