Alligator found in front yard of Glendale home

Updated:
GLENDALE, Ariz. -

An alligator was found in the front yard of one valley man's home on Saturday night.

The two foot long alligator was discovered in front of a home near 75th Avenue and Camelback Road.

The homeowner thought it was a lizard and called a reptile company, only to find out he had an alligator.

The alligator was taken to the Phoenix Herpetological Society where he will be used for education.

"This is an animal that in Arizona, that released in the desert and water ways, could survive and do just fine here. Alligators are very tolerant in extreme heat and extreme cold so this animal has no problem surviving in our desert," said Daniel Marchand, curator at PHS.

The PHS thinks the alligator was a pet that someone let into a nearby lake or canal.
