For first time, Marine dad meets daughter

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

For weeks, U.S. Marine Cpl. Thomas Thornsberry could only sit behind a computer screen and look at his newborn daughter.

The local Marine was serving at Camp Pandleton in California when she was born, and Skype was the only way he could see 3-week-old Abigail and his wife, Ana.

But on Tuesday morning, he finally got to hold her for the first time, returning home on a flight into Tampa International Airport. He walked immediately to his wife, gave her a kiss and then held Abigail in his arms.

"It was intense. I cried a lot," Thornsberry said.

Family members and friends were there to welcome their hero home. We were honored to be there, too.

"We've wanted Abigail since the day we got married … It's just been a crazy nine months," Ana said.

Ana even dressed little Abigail up in her custom-made "welcome home daddy" onesie.

"She looks exactly like her father, and that makes me really happy," Ana said.

Thomas did have to wait a little longer than initially thought. He was supposed to land around 9:30, but the flight was delayed about a half hour.
