New name for outdoor concert venue west of Phoenix

Updated:

PHOENIX (AP) - The outdoor concert venue west of Phoenix has had four different names since it opened in November 1990.

Make that five now.

Officials with the Ak-Chin Indian Community announced Tuesday that the facility will now be called the Ak-Chin Pavilion.

It's the fourth partnership for the amphitheater, which also has been named Blockbuster Desert Sky Pavilion, Cricket Pavilion and Ashley Furniture Home Store Pavilion.

In periods without a partnership, it goes by Desert Sky Pavilion.

"The Ak-Chin Indian Community has long standing roots in Arizona and have always believed that investing in our community is the right thing to do," said Ak-Chin Tribal Chairman Louis J. Manuel, Jr. in a statement.
