Many NJ families remain displaced

NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY) -- Nearly eight months later after Superstorm Sandy, many Jersey Shore families are still displaced from their homes.

The storm destroyed Pam Vasquez's family home in Union Beach. The Vasquezes are living with 40 other families in an apartment complex at Fort Monmouth, a former Army post in Ocean Port.

Pam said the government is giving her family another 10 months in the three-bedroom apartment before they have to move out

The state runs housing recovery centers in nine counties:

    Israeli police said Tuesday they are searching for a young New Jersey religious student who disappeared during a hike in a forest outside Jerusalem last week. Aaron Sofer, 23, of Lakewood, N.J., has been missing since Friday, when he went on a hike with a friend in the Jerusalem Forest, said police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld.

    The rip current risk remains high along the New Jersey and New York coastlines. Some beaches were open to the public but closed to swimmers. The National Weather Service issued a High Surf Advisory and Rip Current Statement for the area beaches because of the effects of Hurricane Cristobal, which is expected to track south and east of the Jersey shore through Thursday.
